Power supply

Four different ways to power a pulse driver

Applies to All types of pulse generators

A power source is connected to supply electrical energy to the pulse generator and, via the pulse generator, the clock.

Connections

The pulse generator has two connectors for connecting a power supply:

  • Round DC Jack connector
  • USB-C connector (Volta and Ampère); older models up to and including version S3 have a micro-USB (type B) connector

With the two connectors, various solutions are possible. Four different ones are listed below.

The supply voltage for the pulse generator is 5 volts by default. However, it will also accept more or less; anything between 3.5 V and 6.0 V is fine (direct current / DC).

1. Batteries

The 'wireless' option. Suitable when connecting to the 230V mains voltage is not desired or possible.

The battery box supplied as standard has a DC Jack connector.

Batteries: 4 × AA 1.5V (penlight)

All pulse generators can run on batteries, but not every clock is suitable for this.

'Unsuitable' means that batteries will run out quickly. See the overview of pulse generators and the page about batteries for more details. Is it unclear whether a specific clock runs well on batteries? Send us a message!

2. USB phone charger

The pulse driver can be connected to a generic USB/phone charger. The cable must have a USB-C plug (Volta and Ampère) or a micro-USB (older models up to and including version S3).

A USB adapter is not included as standard (who doesn't have one lying around in a drawer somewhere!).

When connecting a power supply to both connectors at the same time, the USB is disabled, and only the DC Jack connector is used as power.

3. AC/DC Plug Adapter

A ‘classic’ AC/DC adapter that converts the 230V~ mains voltage into 5V DC, connected with a DC Jack connector.

Not included as standard. The plug adapter can be added as an option when ordering a pulse generator.

4. Built-in power supply

When the pulse generator is built into a (large) clock, this can be a suitable option. Especially when no power strip or wall socket is available for an adapter or phone charger.

  • Connect to the 230V~ mains voltage: brown wire on L (phase), blue wire on N (neutral). Always work with the power switched off and provide proper strain relief; if in doubt, have an electrician do this.
  • DC Jack connector for connection to the pulse generator

Not included as standard. The built-in power supply can be added as an option when ordering a pulse generator.
